Toyota has yet again upgraded the Etios, and in this attempt, it is using a proven formula on the Indian car buyer.

Toyota launched the Etios 2012 model at the Auto Expo back in January that nixed the jarring red inserts on the seats and gear knob, and sported a dark dashboard.

The Etios shown at the Expo was endowed with more changes such as thicker door fittings and better NVH insulation.

After studying another round of feedback collected from Toyota customers the company has yet again upgraded the interiors of the Etios Liva. A mixed beige dashboard and beige door inserts are the most prominent changes, that have lit up the cabin.

The headrests are integrated with the seats and are not independent as they are on the Brazil-spec car. We hope this change is part of future upgrades.

The Etios has helped Toyota improve numbers, but the only way to generate consistent demand is by improving the vehicle with feedback regularly.

The Etios has been attacked with so much flak from enthusiasts and prospective customers for its uninspiring design and tasteless interior. While these are usual consequences of manufacturing a simple car that meets a stiff cost target, the complaint of it lacking the bloodline of a Toyota has also been raised on many enthusiast forums and discussion groups.

Within two years of its launch, the Etios has quickly populated the taxicab market. Comparisons are now being drawn to the Mahindra Logan or Tata Indigo that are popular sedans in the commercial segment. These spacious vehicles may have excellent fuel economy and low running costs, but they miss the aspiration factor that the personal car buyer also looks for, to make a statement to society and neighbours.

Toyota, which is new to selling low-priced vehicles, has constantly put in efforts to market the Etios as a driver's car and family car, such as launching the Etios Motor Racing, appointing a brand ambassador to reach the youth, releasing special edition models and sporty accessories, and now the introduction of a posh-looking beige interior.
