Renault has confirmed the imminent launch of the Scala, its entry into the mid-size sedan market, but did not reveal any info or images of the car. According to our sources, the Scala should be launched in September or October.

The Scala will use the same pair of 1.5-liter engines from the Sunny. Mechanically, both these cars are the same.

The Mumbai design studio takes all the credit for the transforming the Sunny into the Scala, and keeping the cost framework in mind, the designers have made enough changes for people to take a second glance.

Renault designers have changed the look of the car using all of the Sunny's sheet metal parts. Only plastic components such as the bumpers and lights are new. They have also reused the Pulse's wheels.

The front is heavily designed with new headlights and grille. There is a dash of chrome to infuse some more exclusivity.

The Scala's rear, as we discussed before, features a chrome band, a bigger registration plate enclosure and new bumper. The detailing on the tail lights is different. Not sure if Skoda completely agrees that the C-Shaped design is an original.

You can't tell the seats and dashboard of the Scala apart from the Sunny if the badges were stripped off.

The Scala helps Renault participate in yet another growing segment of the Indian auto market. It may not win them 5,000 units every month, but the Scala is yet another customer and sales stream.

Indian Autos Blog will bring you more details from the Scala's media presentation scheduled to take place later this month, so stay tuned!
