Yes, it's finally arrived!

Mahindra Quanto front three-quarters

Our friends at Team-BHP have brought the first undisguised images of the Mahindra Quanto. Until now you've known it as the Mahindra mini Xylo. The Quanto carries forward the tradition of Mahindra products ending with the letter 'O.'

A mere glance is asserts that the Quanto is no different compared to the Xylo. From the front bumper up till the second row, there are no notable differences between the two cars.

The front fascia has come off the Xylo facelift. Two inclusions, and perhaps the only visual differentiators are the sculpted hood and repositioned Mahindra emblem on the brand plate, placed above the grille, which isn't all new, as it is borrowed from the Genio.

The Team-BHP scoop thread claims that the launch will unfold before or during Diwali, which is what we also predicted. The product is a seven seater with butterfly-type rear three quarter glass. The top variant, like the Xylo, is fully loaded with features such as Airbags, ABS brakes, 6-spoke alloy wheels, steering-mounted controls for audio, Bluetooth compatibility, height-adjustable driver seat and reverse parking sensors.

Counting in the fact the Mahindra Quanto is a sub-4 meter product with a 1.5-liter diesel engine, (rumored to employ a twin-turbocharger with 100bhp output) it qualifies as a small car with a 10% excise benefit. Therefore it is expected to be priced starting from as low as 5.xx lakhs, according to Team-BHP, who say that Mahindra badly wants to the car to succeed.

To mask the Quanto's MPV roots, Mahindra has placed the spare wheel on the car's tailgate (a feature associated with off-roaders). Everything from the Swift VDi to the Duster RxL will feature in its hitlist.

What do you make of the Quanto? Do you think there is a cause of concern not only for the Ford EcoSport and the Maruti Ertiga, but also for B+ segment hatchbacks like the i20 and Swift?
