This year, Audi surpassed Mercedes to bag the number 2 position in the luxury car market and with the launch of the Q3, it sure is not far from being the top luxury car manufacturer in India.

Audi India has changed its marketing strategy by emphasizing more on social media, web channels, music videos, booking parties and customer drives. About 800-900 potential customers got a chance to drive the Q3 on a small track that tests the off-roading abilities of the car in Gurgaon (scroll down for the photographs).

Recently Indian Autos Blog was invited to sample the Audi Q3 at this track.

Under the hood is a 177bhp 2.0-liter engine with Quattro which is paired to an all-wheel drive, helping us to maneuver through the course without getting stuck. The route consisted of steep hill descent, side angular climbs, an off-road surface and a steep moving descent.

We were able to come to grips with what the Quattro all wheel drive system is capable of in an off-road surface. Make no mistake, the Audi Q3 is not a mud-plugger, but it has the basic qualifications to handle the occasional venture off the beaten path.

The only problems we had was getting used to the vague steering and spongy brakes.

Check out the video to see how well the Q3 fared.
