We'd like to inform readers that GM India has no plans to launch the Spin in India. They have the Chinese vans Honguang (Spin) and HongTu (N200) lined up for introduction this year and the next and already have the Tavera on the market. Therefore there may not be space for a fourth MPV launch.
Many of you have been writing in asking about this Brazilian model, so now that we've cleared the air, let's move on to the Spin's Brazilian launch.
The Spin is an inexpensive family van built on the Chevrolet Beat's foundation. If GM India had not sold a stake to China's SAIC, the partnership would have never existed and GM India would have pressed on with the launches on the Gamma II platform. We would have got the Sonic twins and perhaps the Spin MPV that you see here shooting for its commercial in Ocerin Pablo Avenue in Sumaré in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
But the handshake meant the Sonic dreams were over and the Sail twins came into focus.
The Spin is powered by a 1.8-liter engine and GM is introducing a 6-speed transmission for the first time in this segment. The variant filming for the commercial is the Spin LTZ that has headrests for the third row among other features.
Noticias Automotivas reports that there are three variants on the Spin such as the LS, LT and the LTZ. The LTZ variant has seven seats and a more premium look & feel.
