The jubilee car was a white Superb Combi Laurin & Klement variant, from the Kvasiny plant in the Czech Republic.

Skoda India assembles the Superb at the VW Group plant in Aurangabad. The second generation Superb that came in 2009 is a star performer and gave Skoda market leadership in the 20 lakh rupee sedan category that has some internationally renowned names such as the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. It has to be added that the lack of a diesel option in the competition's armour contributed in the Superb's current standing.

Globally the story is along similar lines. The Superb is sold in 85 countries and 117,000 units of the model were delivered last year. 40% of these vehicles went to Chinese homes. Skoda sells a sedan and an estate version of the Superb with the option of 4WD.

To build on this success, Skoda is working on a facelift endowing the model with cosmetic upgrades. The new Superb is likely to come later this year and international markets will receive it in a phased manner.
