Yesterday we informed you that on the sidelines of new launches like the Hyundai Sonata and the soon-to-be-launched Toyota Camry, Skoda, the current market leader in the executive sedan segment, is launching a corporate variant of the Superb, called “Ambition”. Skoda used the same philosophy with the Laura naming it the “Classic”.

The Superb Ambition variant looks exactly the same as the other variants as the all changes are on the equipment list. On the outside, the Ambition variant gets projector headlamps instead of bi-xenons, skimps on the headlamp washers, sunroof, and misses proximity sensors on the front.

On the inside, cruise control, hill hold and descent functions, Bluetooth and steering-mounted controls are missing and in the place of a six CD changer & touch screen, now sits a basic CD player.

The diesel variant comes only with a DSG automatic transmission whereas the petrol variant, as of now, gets a six-speed manual transmission. Sources say an automatic transmission will be introduced very soon.

The long list of safety features including the eight airbags, ABS, EBD, ASR (Anti-Slip regulation), TCS (Traction Control system), ESP (Electronic Stability Program) remain intact with only the TPM (Tyre Pressure Monitor) getting the boot. Thankfully cost cutting has not intervened with the safety rating of the Superb.

The M/T Petrol Ambition variant is priced at Rs. 18,00,000 and the A/T Diesel Ambition variant is priced at Rs. 22,50,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). With the Skoda Superb Ambition you save a whooping Rs. 1.6 lakh on the petrol and Rs. 1.5 lakh on the diesel variant if all you need is a cheaper Superb.
