The car known as the Celerio, Alto or the Nissan Pixo all around the world, didn't exactly run riots in India. Manufactured in India for the rest of the world, the Maruti Suzuki A-Star found greater acceptance in export markets. Due to the pricing strategy, the A-Star had to contend with a sales champion in its own home. The Wagon R has played the role of the leader in the B segment and the A-Star is lost in its shadows.

To seek better fortunes, the A-Star was presented with a minor update in January this year through refreshing beige tone interiors, two new body colors and a new set of alloys.

The A-Star holds an image of being sporty yet compact and is targeted at the young generation. So, to further enhance the sporty image of the car, Suzuki has put out a special edition known as "Alto Play” for the UK market. The A-Star Play gets new interior color scheme, a special blue seat fabric (not the ones you get in the Ritz) complementing the Oyster Blue metallic paint on the outside. The door handles and the mirrors are body colored and the striking silver accent on the front bumper tries pumping up the exclusivity factor.

A 1.0-liter petrol engine churning out 68bhp mated to a 5-speed gearbox propels the A-Star. We'll have to hang on for a few months to learn if Maruti is interested in offering this special edition in India.
