Hyundai i20 facelift - 1.1L 3cyl diesel engine, lowest emissions for any conventional powertrain!

Hyundai has released the first images and details of the i20 facelift that premieres at the Geneva Motor Show tomorrow. The following are the highlights of the new i20 which now looks very similar to senior members in its family.

  • 84g/km CO2 emissions, lowest for any conventional powertrain
  • Cosmetic makeover inspired by Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy
  • Enhanced equipment, the details of which will be clear after its unveiling
  • 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder U-II diesel engine that outputs 75PS developed at Hyundai’s Diesel Centre of Excellence in Rüsselsheim, Germany
  • Currently running 1.4-liter diesel engine has been upgraded, the ‘1.4-liter U-II’ engine generates 90PS and emits just 96g/km of CO2
  • Revised exterior styling carries the hallmarks of Fluidic Design such as the hexagonal grille, sculpted bonnet and new headlamp units
  • Length is increased by 55 mm (front 30 mm, rear 25 mm) over the outgoing model to 3995 mm

Hyundai India may not use the 1.1-liter diesel engine on the i20. They may reserve it for the next generation i10 (code - BA) that is likely to be introduced in late 2013. Our sources say the Fluidic i20 will be launched in India in early April, around a month from the Geneva debut.
