It is almost a year now since Land Rover began assembly of the Freelander 2 in Pune. Priced at under 40 lakh rupees, the Freelander 2 is a good alternative to the X3 and Q5. A little while after the first anniversary of the locally assembled Freelander2 is celebrated, the model may go under the scalpel.

What's new on the 2013 Freelander 2?

Judging from the photographs posted on WorldCarFans.com, the second facelift of the least expensive Land Rover is already in the testing phase. The first facelift was unveiled in 2010 and the second one, not as comprehensive as the first (left), is expected to be revealed at the Paris Auto Show in September. There are minor differences to the headlight, taillight and grille.

Price and engines?

Rumor has it that the facelifted model will have a slightly updated interior and more fuel efficient engines. Presently a 2.2-liter diesel engine producing 150 PS / 4,000 rpm on the manual one version and 190 PS / 3,500 rpm and a maximum torque 420 Nm / 1,750 rpm on the second version. Both versions are paired to an automatic transmission.

Could the Freelander 2 facelift feature the first engine jointly developed by JLR and Tata Motors?

Prices may be left unchanged, confirmation of which is expected only after the model is announced.
