The German luxury car giant, BMW entered the Indian market in the year 2007 and in its second year it sold 2,908 units of its cars which wasn't too far away from the direct competitor, Mercedes Benz which sold 3,625 cars in the same year with a 12 year experience in the Indian car market.

Revving up efforts, BMW has plans to launch a total of five new models in this year, leaving out the recently introduced new 3 Series and 7 Series.

The new models in the pipeline include the X6 crossover which was showcased earlier this month at the Delhi Auto Mall, the X3 diesel and another new sports model plus two more variants of the new 7 Series will also be introduced in the coming months.

BMW India president Peter Kronschnabl-

We have lined-up ambitious launches for India to increase competition. We are hopeful of becoming the segment leader sometime this year. Besides the 3 and 7 series, there will be a few more surprises during the year at regular intervals to capture the top slot.
