Tata has started The Nano's production at its Pantnagar(Uttarakhand) existing facility and has geared up to roll out its first batch of Nano cars by the first quarter of 2009. Despite the start of production, it quite inevitable that Tata Nano is likely to miss its promised launch by the end of this year.

Clues were given by vendors who were asked to supply components for only 3,500 - 4,000 Nanos on a temporary basis for now, as full production will start only when the Mother plant at Sanand is constructed.

Tatas are also eyeing an integrated land of about 1,100 acres at Pantnagar to manufacture both the Ace pick-up truck and The Nano in tandem.
