The Tata Nano has created a spur globally. Ultra-low cost cars were ideas which remained ideas and the Nano gave them their identity.

After Renault, Hyundai, Ford, GM and Mitsubishi, PSA Peugeot-Citroen has declared that it will join the low-cost car bandwagon starting 2011. Details are limited, but prospects of the car arriving here in India is high as the French car maker reported that it will be offered in emerging markets like China.

The car would be of condensed dimensions and will benefit from a 1.0-liter engine. It should most likely seat 4 and do 45 mpg. Chances of battery and hybrid cannot be ruled out as 2011 may see introduction of a number of small cars powered by non-conventional sources of power.

IAB Comment- This is just the beginning of the small car revolution.
