The next generation Honda Amaze is scheduled to arrive in April-May 2018. It made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Starting price of the upcoming Honda compact sedan could be Rs. 5.50 lakh (ex-showrooom). Read on to know about the new 2018 Honda Amaze launch, price, specifications and other details.
Honda Amaze was launched in India in April 2013, almost a year and a half after the arrival of the Brio. The compact sedan was the first diesel-powered offering from HCIL and had an immediate impact on sales helping the company achieve its highest ever domestic monthly sales of 11,342 units in May 2013. Within 16 months of its launch, Honda managed to sell 1 lakh units of the Amaze in India. In March 2016, the compact sedan received its first major facelift in the form of refreshed styling and revamped dashboard.
News of the second generation Honda Amaze first emerged in May 2016, when it was revealed the car, codenamed Honda 2UB, will be arriving in 2018-19. It was unveiled at the Auto Expo on February 6, 2018. The next gen Amaze will be launched in India before the next gen Brio (codename Honda 2UA). It has been developed by Honda Thailand’s R&D division with inputs from Honda India’s R&D engineers.

Competition Check
Rivals of the Honda Amaze will include –
2018 Honda Amaze Petrol Specifications (expected)
Engine | 1.2 L i-VTEC Petrol |
Power | 88 PS |
Torque | 109 Nm |
Transmission | 5-speed Manual/CVT |
Estimated Mileage | 18-19 KMPL |
While the 1198 cc Petrol and 1498 cc Diesel engine options will be retained, reports suggest the latter will produce more power. Honda’s 1.5 L i-DTEC unit has often been criticized for its high NVH levels, something the engineers will be improving in the next-gen Brio series. The CVT, unlike the outgoing model, will not be exclusive to the petrol variant. Honda Amaze buyers will get to opt for a CVT as well.
2018 Honda Amaze Diesel Specifications (expected)
Engine | 1.5 L i-DTEC Diesel |
Power | 100-110 PS |
Torque | 200-220 Nm |
Transmission | 5-speed Manual/CVT |
Estimated Mileage | 27-28 KMPL |
Variant | Estimated Overall Fuel Efficiency |
Petrol | 17-18 KMPL |
Diesel | 27-28 KMPL |
When launched in April 2013, the Amaze became the most fuel efficient car on sale in India with an ARAI certified 25.8 KMPL. Since the current engine and transmission options are expected to remain, there wouldn’t be a significant change in fuel consumption figures. Honda, if not close in, may aim to overhaul the Dzire’s claimed fuel consumption figure of 28.4 KMPL in a bid to become the most fuel efficient car in India.
Unlike the first generation Amaze that was engineered after the arrival of the Brio, the second generation model has been developed alongside the hatchback. This has enabled designers to come up with a more cohesive body. It is better proportioned and borrows heavily from the Honda Civic and Accord, in terms of design. The passenger cell has moved backward slightly elongating the front, and reducing the rear overhang to give it a traditional three-box profile.
The interior too gets an overhaul gaining features like a 7-inch Digipad touchscreen system, automatic climate control, rear AC vents and more while retaining the segment-best occupant space. Honda has added features like keyless entry and push button start to bring the Amaze at par with its competitors. The fixed front seat headrests have been replaced with adjustable headrests. The all-new Honda Amaze features a twin-pod instrument cluster with a small MID between the gauges, a new three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, redesigned dashboard, centre console and air vents and a touchscreen infotainment system. The Tata Tigor rival has gained a cruise control system with the latest update. Its interior has a two-tone beige-black colour scheme and gloss black trim inserts.

The new model Amaze won’t grow much in length as it is bound by the sub 4-meter small car regulations and already has class-leading rear legroom. However, it is wider to aid accommodation of three passengers in the rear with greater ease. Honda is yet to reveal the exact specifications.
