Fiat will source parts for low cost car from India

The Italian Auto major -FIAT has said that India will play an important role in the launch of FIAT’s low cost car brand which is expected by year 2010.

Earlier, Fiat had plans of confining the low cost brand to the European markets. Now though, FIAT is considering India as a key hub for its new brand chiefly for supply of cheap yet durable components.

After the infamous tumultuous journey, the most eagerly anticipated car of 2009 (as per our polls)- The Tata Nano, may finally roll out on January 26. Tata dealers and Auto experts say that Republic Day would be a preferred day to bring out the ‘People’s Car’. So, the Tata Nano is now all set to reach the homes of the People, but bookings will not open until March 2009.

At the 4th Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit (VGGIS) 2009, held on 12th & 13th January 2009 at Science City, Ahmedabad, the ‘World’s Cheapest Car’ – Tata Nano was on display- in a bid to manifest one of its greatest achievements (by being home to Tata Motors’ mother plant) till date. Ratan Tata’s Rs 1 lakh car Nano, was among the 227 stalls which were a part of the exhibition.

The Tata Nano, as we all know has faced a King’s share of political reality in the recent past. In a rare first, the Tata Nano made itself visible to a group of people residing in the hilly town of Gopeshwar in Chameli district, to taste road reality! Residents of Gopeshwar got a rare glimpse of the Rs 1 lakh Tata Nano car parked on a roadside.

As 2008 draws to a close, all eyes will be set on the much-awaited Tata Nano, reportedly to be launched in the last quarter of this financial year (Jan-Mar’09). The company dealers however are still left clueless and are not in any position to tell customers when ‘the people’s car’ will be launched.
