The Toyota Land Cruiser Prado was launched in India with a diesel heart last year. Drivers appreciated it for its off-roading ability, show it any terrain, and it’ll take up the challenge with a smile.
But there are limitations to what a car can do even if it’s a Land Cruiser Prado. If you see a dry patch of land with bumps, gravel, mud, sand, steep inclines and even tiny craters, then yes, you can use your Prado to conquer with speed and skill.
But if there’s a 10 foot deep trench or ditch filled with water waiting to swallow elephants, you’re better off with a boat or a hovercraft, as this man found out.
Information and images of the LC Prado will be posted today. Toyota’s management spoke out on several topics which has been bothering us, and we will discuss it in detail today in another post.
The new Toyota LC Prado debuts tomorrow in India. 3.0-liter diesel option likely
Toyota will launch the refreshed Land Cruiser Prado tomorrow in India. While we can’t confirm if Toyota will include the 3.0-liter D-4D diesel engine to the Prado, we certainly can’t rule out the possibility since the company has spoken about it before. The engine will be listed, but will it happen tomorrow?
We’re heading to the launch to find this out. We’ll also ask Toyota about their small car and plans they have for the Auto Expo. So come back tomorrow to learn about it.
The Toyota Prado comes with a 3.0-litre D-4D turbo common rail diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission. It produces 171bhp at 3,400rpm and maximum torque of 410Nm between 1,600 and 2,800rpm.
A ground breaking feature on the Prado is the Multi-terrain Select, which automatically controls power and braking according to the off-road surface, while providing you live video feeds through the four cameras placed around the car.
The Prado is expected to be priced around 40-50 lakh rupees. Be sure to check Indian Autos Blog tomorrow for more information.
Our friends working at the newspapers say a top company official from TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motors) confirmed the entry of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado diesel as a CBU in India next year.
The Prado diesel is expected to come with the same 3.0-litre D-4D turbo common rail diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The UK spec model produces 171bhp at 3,400rpm and maximum torque of 410Nm between 1,600 and 2,800rpm, but that could be tweaked for India.
The revamped Toyota Land Cruiser Prado with its macho styling is one of the delights at the Frankfurt Show this year. Leaked shots and spec sheets have not prompted Toyota to go low-key with the Prado’s launch. They’ve still come out to Germany and put their Fortuner-engined Prado on display.
Yes, you heard that right – The Toyota Prado comes with a 3.0-litre D-4D turbo common rail diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission. It produces 171bhp at 3,400rpm and maximum torque of 410Nm between 1,600 and 2,800rpm.

The official press release says the vehicle goes on sale in Britain from the 1st of December 2009. No word on the Indian launch date, but we think it is around the corner, an official announcement can be expected shortly.
