Video – Suzuki Kizashi running footage

The Suzuki Kizashi should be introduced in India by the end of 2010 and reports in the media reveal the Kizashi will be CKD. We don’t know which engines or powertrains are going to make it here, but a four cylinder petrol engine is said to be on the cards. Before we go overboard with our speculation, we’ll show you running footage of this graceful car that certainly wins our vote.

Suzuki_Kizashi_India_Maruti_Auto_ExpoCBU or CKD? It is too early to decipher Maruti Suzuki’s plans for Kizashi in India

One of our favorite picks – DWS, is reporting that Suzuki will launch the Kizashi in India during the Auto Expo in January next year. The Kizashi was launched in Japan a couple of days back and its international debut was conducted in the US back in July.

There is no clarity on the versions that will be offered in India. DWS says a 6-speed manual transmission will be launched next year with front wheel drive.

The 2400cc petrol engine on the Kizashi makes 185 horsepower and 170 ft-lbs of torque. EBD and ABS are standard. Initial test drive reports are positive and say the car can handle corners well.

Spied – Suzuki Kizashi spotted in China

On an unknown stretch of road in our neighboring country China, a lensman captured the upcoming Suzuki Kizashi clocking valuable test miles.

The Kizashi, according to magazines in India, will arrive here next year contradicting Maruti Suzuki’s earlier claims of taking appropriate decisions on the same only in 2011.

The new mid-size sedan is pitched at the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord league, which these days is topped by the Skoda Superb in India.

:D

The Kizashi is a non-fuss D-Segment car that’s got the muscle, skin and detail of a luxury sedan. Ashley (China Car Times’ editor) claims it will be launched in their country with a 2.4-liter liter 4-cylinder engine. We expect the same motor in our country, though a smaller 2.0-liter is also in the works, which would be more suitable for our mileage-conscious country.

If we were Suzuki, the eye-catching/mind-boggling Kizashi would have been here. In fact by now, Honda would have scampered back to the drawing board to make a new Accord and Toyota would have likely slashed Camry prices. Segment leader Skoda Superb would have been discontinued, and the company would have declared competing in this segment was not viable anymore.

As we are not Suzuki, sadly, the Kizashi isn’t here. It won’t be here anytime soon we’re told. Suzuki officials have confirmed that they will take the final call on the Kizashi’s Indian inning in the next two years.

They say there would be no point in launching it here if the demands are not satisfactory, a lesson they learned by launching models like the Vitara, Versa and the Baleno.

The 2.4-liter engined Kizashi is the Japanese car manufacturer’s first time model in the segments ruled by Honda, Toyota, Mercedes and BMW. The Kizashi uses the old and effective formula – every other feature, at a price less than anything else – a similar formula adopted by the successful Hyundai in conquering European and other far away lands.

Suzuki is known for its powerful spine chilling Gixxers and Hayabusas. In Europe, you would relate Suzuki to the Alto or the fun Swift. In India, you would relate them to the 800 and Omni, two cars that bolted wheels to India. When such a car maker opts in to play in the segment where there are no prisoners, you start to question to ideology behind the move. Sure, you could give a dozen airbags and a 1000 kilograms of electronics, but would the Americans, who love their Mercs and Beemers, want to trip in Suzuki luxury sedan?

We could not believe our eyes when photographs of the Suzuki Kizashi from a private unveiling ceremony were posted online. It wasn’t pictures of a camouflaged test mule, but a production model without even an inch of camouflage.

- Look at those alloy wheels!!

- What’s with the chrome strip along the wheelbase?

- Why isn’t there a photo clicked from the back?

- Did you see those greedy fog lamps? look how much they eat into the bumper’s territory!

Note – If the Kizashi happens overseas, it will happen in India as well.

After a long time, the Suzuki Kizashi is in the news again. And there’s nothing funny or irritating about it. Suzuki has confirmed this mid-size sedan will reach dealerships in America by the end of this year. Later on, as reports also state, Suzuki’s first hybrid car in the U.S will use the Kizashi platform and bodywork.

The Kizashi could have been the Japanese manufacturer’s most challenging undertaking in its several-decade history, thanks to the bouquet of uncertainties that loomed over this project due to recession and all.

We’ve cooked up our own stories and jokes, giving it the title of the World’s most confused car, but from the bottom of our heart, we love this car’s design and adore the prospect of a luxury car that will have surplus service backup and spares availability.

Three lightly camouflaged Suzuki Kizashis were spotted outside a Kansas hotel by a Carscoop reader. This time around, the cars interiors can be viewed in greater detail.

The Speedo and Tachometer are set deep, much like Alfa Romeo instrument panels. The knobs and buttons are quite well organised, but confined to the center stack.
