Graced by Mr.Narendra Modi, Gujarat state’s chief minister, and by the man behind this innovation, Mr.Ratan Tata himself, the Sanand plant of Tata Motors in Gujarat was inaugurated today. It will produce Tata Nanos, thousands of them, and promises to erase backlogs and bad memories by rolling out many different variants of the car in the future.
The first Nano to come out of the facility was dressed like a bride with flowers. Tata’s giving her away with a hope that she’ll bring laurels and more happiness to her family.
The Sanand plant could also make kits which will be shipped to countries across the globe for assembly. There could be several variants like for example a convertible, station wagon, long wheelbase, pickup truck, mini-van and many other derivatives from the Nano platform. The Nano isn’t a car, remember? It’s a platform!

NDTV is reporting that Tata Motors will formally inaugurated the Sanand plant tomorrow. The event will be conducted in the presence of group chairman Ratan Tata and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.
The Sanand plant is completely automated and the company’s objective is to manufacture one Tata Nano a minute by the June 1st 2011. Tata Motors could sell one lakh Nanos by the end of this year, and that means all customers who were allotted the vehicle last year could receive them by December 2010 or sooner.
The Nanos are currently rolled out of Pantnagar which also manufactures the Ace mini truck. By moving the Nanos production completely to Sanand, the Pantnagar division can concentrate on producing more Aces.
Tata reportedly has asked its vendors to setup their factories around the plant by Diwali and deliver the components ‘just in time.’

Ratan Tata has made it official that the makeshift Sanand plant in Gujarat to manufacture the Nano will be operational by January 2010. Tata was forced to vacate from its nearly complete Singur factory in West Bengal after political agitations and death threats issued to company workers.
Speaking at the company’s annual general meeting, Tata said there has been a lot of positive feedback for the Nano and countries in Asia and Africa have shown a lot of interest.
Once strong demands in India are met, the plant will manufacture cars, possibly more powerful ones, for the European and aforementioned markets.
He added yellow and silver color Nanos are in great demand.
Tata Motors says it will deliver up to 60,000 units of the ultra-cheap Nano, by July 2010, Touted as the world’s cheapest car, the Nano is getting its passport prepared to wade international waters after the mother plant Sanand reaches completion.
Ratan Tata said the new Sanand plant will be ready by the financial year end and it would have a capacity of 250,000 units per year.
The Nano is currently manufactured at the Pantnagar facility, where the Ace pickup truck is made, which has an annual capacity of 50,000 cars.
The company says the first 1,00,000 deliveries will be completed by October-December 2010 from both the facilities.

Tata Motors has just decided to allot land to its 55-odd Nano parts vendors at Sanand in Gujarat. The vendors have been asked to set up facilities by October so that the Nano can roll out from the Sanand factory by Jan 2010. A Tata spokesperson said “More than 60% of the Sanand plant construction work is over”
Pantnagar’s Tata facility we hear, is bustling with activity these days. Reports suggest that, Tata Nano is ready and likely to hit the dealer networks by February 2009 end. Both the “base” model and the “fully loaded” model will be available at the dealer showrooms mid-to late February. Tata Motors is keen to drive the Nano into dealer showrooms for potential customers to look at and get a feel of the car, which is expected to be a volume grosser for the company eventually.
Head of Tata Motors’ engineering department, Nagbhushan, said that Tata Motors has sent ‘Release Candidate Test Mules’ of its one-lakh car – The Nano from its Pantnagar plant to three cities DehraDun, Almora and Ranikhet in the state of Uttarakhand, where its test run would be conducted for a day or two – in order to check the cars road ability and to implement vital updates to the cars dynamics.
