When Mercedes launched the new M Class, they were inundated with orders. The company received 100 bookings in just a week when the yearly target was 500 units. News also came in that the limited edition ML350CDI with the AMG pack was almost sold out.

Now our friends at AutoJunction.in report that sensing the desirability of the new M Class, Mercedes India is planning a cheaper variant.

Mercedes Benz India launched the new generation M Class (or ML Class) in Delhi yesterday we have kept our readers updated with plenty of photographs and updates from the launch posted throughout yesterday and this morning. Just yesterday, Mercedes lifted the veil off the new Mercedes M Class and there’s good news already! An official from Mercedes India told IndianAutosBlog.com just a handful of the first batch of models (M Class Edition 1) are unsold. Mercedes has brought 100 examples of this special edition to India with AMG body kit, alloys and a high level of equipment.

Having known that the target for the new M Class is 500 bookings in the whole year, that’s a pretty remarkable achievement!

Considering the launch is just two days away, Mercedes India has instructed dealers to display demo cars at dealership across India.

Our friends at GoaonWheels, have managed to snap up the car at Alcon Mercedes-Benz, the sole dealer for Mercedes cars in Goa.

The all new Mercedes M Class dons the new Mercedes design language that was showcased on the SL for the first time. It is an S Class of its SUV range here in India because of the features that it offers.

A low-res brochure shot showing the rear of the next generation M-Class has made its way to the web. Hosted on Burlappcars.com, the 5-seat SUV looks to have taken more than a few design touches from the E-Class wagon. The brochure scan also indicates that the vehicle is very nearly done.

There’s no shortage of test mule footage on the internet. IAB has carried spy shots (leaked image of the front-end) and a complete video of the car during various stages of testing in Europe. Expected to bow in during the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, the latest line of gasoline units (3.5-liter V6 and 4.6-liter V8) will join the V6 oil burner at launch. A 5.5-liter V8 from tuning arm AMG could also make the cut.

Mercedes India told a newspaper that it plans to assemble the M-Class in India. Could the new M-Class be introduced in India as a CKD model by the end of 2011?
