Mahindra&Mahindra, as we reported yesterday, has taken the wraps of the Maxximo Mini Van. Essentially a Maxximo with a roof and additional seats, the Mini Van is priced at Rs 3.2 lakh BS III (ex-showroom Navi Mumbai).
Developed with an investment of Rs 200 crore, the Mini Van is priced at around Rs 1,500 more expensive than competition (Tata Ace Magic). It will lock horns with Force Motors’ Trump Trip and Maruti’ legendary Omni van which is the segment king.
Within six months of its launch, the Mini Van will be sold through 230 dealers and 600 outlets. Mahindra has captured about 23 percent share of the sub-one tonne LCV market.
The product has been successful in the application movement form with over 40,000 Maxximos sold since the launch.
Sources have told IndianAutosBlog that Mahindra is conducting a launch of a MUV tomorrow at its Kandivali facility. Details are not clear, but we don’t know another MUV in the Mahindra pipeline apart from the Maxximo passenger van.
The mini van is expected to retain all mechanicals, including the 900cc twin-cylinder CRDI engine outputting 18.4KW power and 55Nm of torque, from the Maxximo load-carrier version.
Spotted during its test runs on the Mumbai-Pune expressway, the Maxximo passenger van is production ready. Out in the market its prime enemy will be the best-selling Tata Ace Magic van. With a more capable engine, more comfort and handful of additional features, we predict this mini van will land a powerful punch. When you let aggression take control, you’ll go the wrong way. The yet to be released Mahindra Maxximo TV advertisement proves just that.
I understand Tata Ace has dominated the mini truck segment for the past few years but why vent out that frustration by making an Ad that shows a robot digesting a water can, running past a Ace and then transforming into a Maxximo?
Mahindra should film something depicting the Maxximo’s features and capabilities.

Mahindra plans 2 Maxximo variants
Mahindra plans to launch two new variants of the Maxximo – a passenger carrier (taking on the Tata Ace Magic) and a CNG edition of the pickup truck in the coming months. The Maxximo is powered via 2-cylinder CRDI engine, which this segment has not seen so far. The wrap around headlamps with reflectors, dead pedal, larger cabin, drive by wire throttle and 850kg payload capacity makes the Maxximo a superior vehicle on paper compared to the market leader Tata Ace.
The Maxximo will sit above the Gio in the CV lineup of Mahindra
Mahindra will launch the Maxximo cargo truck at the Auto Expo next week. According to our friends at vicky.in who have knowledge on this vehicle’s specifications, the Maxximo will use a 2 cylinder, 900cc CRDe m_Hawk engine.
The payload of the truck will be 800kg and the styling will be closely based on the Mahindra Gio, the half-tonne truck unveiled recently.
The mHawk engine on the Maxximo will develop 25bhp of power and 55Nm of torque. This is several times greater than the Gio’s capabilities. The Maxximo should give tough competition to the Tata Ace, which is the market leader in this segment.
The Maxximo will roll out of Mahindra’s new plant in Chakan and have interiors matching to a car. The brand name Maxximo was christened using words MORE and MAXIMUM.
