Lowell Paddock will assume the position of President and Managing Director of General Motors India from January 1, 2012 replacing Karl Slym who has served in that position since October 2007, a press release from GM India explained today.

We plan to look within the General Motors portfolio for alternate technology vehicles
Karl Slym, President and Managing Director of GM India, in a chat with NDTV profit on the way ahead with electric vehicles.

It’s true that we are looking at (launching) cars in various different segments, but I don’t think it’s fair to say we are trying to launch a Nano.
President and Managing Director of GM India Karl Slym when someone asked him if his company is going to launch a Tata Nano competitor in India.

“We get a choice of separate products now from our joint venture in China with SAIC, the first part of it is that we shall pick up LCVs from that portfolio, and secondly bring in three varieties of these vehicles to India at Halol.
Our facility at Halol, having manufacturing capacity of 85,000 units, is capable of producing LCVs for which we are planning to start manufacturing in 2011. It’s very exciting as its going to be a whole new segment for us to begin with here.”

During the launch of the new Chevrolet Tavera Neo-2 (Price Rs 9.58 lakh) today in Chennai, General Motors India announced that it will be introducing two car models by next year. General Motors India President and Managing Director Karl Slym said, “As of now we are working on it but we are expecting the cars to hit the market next year.
