At the 4th Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit (VGGIS) 2009, held on 12th & 13th January 2009 at Science City, Ahmedabad, the ‘World’s Cheapest Car’ – Tata Nano was on display- in a bid to manifest one of its greatest achievements (by being home to Tata Motors’ mother plant) till date. Ratan Tata’s Rs 1 lakh car Nano, was among the 227 stalls which were a part of the exhibition.
Tata Motors is in the process of analyzing a port at Simar to export its global car –Nano – to overseas markets. Gujarat is all set to become an important auto export hub in the country, with Mundra Port already setting up a dedicated car terminal for Maruti Suzuki.
The Japanese carmaker – Toyota Kirloskar is all set to launch its popular MUV in India – Toyota Innova in CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) version by end – January 2009, hoping to stir demand amid sagging sales. The company is also conducting trials of Innova CNG.
Honda recently made news with its massive price-cut on its Civic Hybrid, which was then taken back. Now, Honda plans to hike car prices across models starting from Rs 10,000 upto Rs 1.5 lakh with effect from January next year. The company blames the depreciation of the rupee against dollar and expensive raw materials.
