Hyundai has launched the diesel variant of the i20 with a 1.4-liter CRDI engine. The new engine churns out 90ps at 4000rpm. 22.4 kgm of torque would be available from 1,750-2,750rpm Hyundai claims, which is almost twice the amount of torque of the existing 1.2-liter Kappa engine.
The 1.4 Gamma petrol engine debuts on the i20, but is coupled only to a 4-speed automatic transmission. This engine develops 100ps at 5,000rpm and 13.9kgm torque at 4,200rpm.
A choice of seven colors is offered on the i20 diesel – Dark Grey, Silky Beige, Berry Red, Black, Crystal White and Sparkle Blue.

The Hyundai i20 diesel has been manufactured and sold in Europe. The reason why Hyundai did not introduce it in India could have to do with the Grande Punto and Honda Jazz. A wait and watch strategy could have been adopted. If the Hyundai i20 is intelligently priced, it will definitely attract large number of customers.

The Hyundai i20 is manufactured exclusively in India, in both diesel and petrol avatars, but India is starved of the diesel model. Numerically successful, Hyundai plans to reinforce it’s attack on the Skoda Fabia and the upcoming Honda Jazz by soon releasing the diesel version in India.
Meanwhile, the i10′s winning fans globally and acquired the title as a hatchback that suits all modern-day requirements- Space, comfort, low on maintenance and fuel costs and fun to drive. What is missed on the i10 is not hard to guess- A diesel heart.
