In India- You see the Fiat Grande Punto testing on the highways of Maharashtra
In China- You see the Fiat Grande Punto testing out some other car’s components without authorization and for some reason, with a lot of camouflage.
Are there any rules at all enforced on Chinese car companies? They have their own Smart, Matiz, A-Star, Yaris, Swift and Nano. If that wasn’t enough to sail your boat, here’s some new menace- A Chinese crap car using another manufacturer’s body shell for its testing.
Further, the Roewe 250 has done a poor job at hiding the fact that it’s wearing the Grande Punto’s clothes. Why camouflage it wasting money, time and tape?
Tired of updating on the cars debuting at Geneva, we’re taking a break by doing an exclusive. Gurudatta Nayak, an avid reader of Indian Autos Blog, sent us a set of images of a camouflaged Fiat Grande Punto which he snapped in Panjim.
A couple of Brazillian Car blogs have pointed out, and have got information from sources they believe are trustworthy, that the new Fiat Grande Punto will borrow a great deal of design elements from its elder sibling- the Fiat Bravo. Shown here is a rendering of how the future Fiat Punto might look. Clearly, the changes are confined to the front grille and the front bumper.
The Grande Punto has been awaited by us Indians, ever since 2005. The car was so successful, that one million of Grande Puntos have already left production plants.
As this is a Fiat, and this is India, it does not matter whether one million have been made or not even one has been made. It needs to come and come with a competitive sticker price (read as cheap)
The success of its two hatchbacks – the Aveo U-VA and the Spark and new releases from other automakers – has spurred GM India to think of bringing the Chevrolet Mini sooner than ever!
GM is now working out all odds to bring in the ‘Mini’ and heat up the premium hatchback space. The Chevrolet Mini which is based on the Beat concept (showcased two years back in New York Auto Show) will come with frugal Petrol and Diesel engine options; expected to be positioned above the Chevrolet U-VA and priced around that range.
The Chevy Mini as it appears (in pictures), would be a large hatchback- possibly the largest hatchback India has seen (we’ll leave out the SRV for now)! But this is just a speculation (a visual perception), as no dimensions have been revealed yet.

Fiat Linea – A car that had been launched internationally two years back has finally hit the Indian market and Fiat seems to be banking on Linea sales for a complete image transformation. The one millionth Fiat Grande Punto rolled out Fiat’s Melfi factory a couple of days back. The Grande Punto has changed the face of Fiat after the brand almost went bankrupt before the car’s launch.
Launched in 2005, the Grande Punto is the 3rd-generation Punto and is significantly larger than its predecessors. Almost 6.5 million of the Punto series have been sold since it’s launch in 1993. This car, according to sources, will be manufactured in India starting February 2009.
There has been too much of unwelcomed commotion and unrest amid Indian car fanatics and buyers due to the hold up of Fiat’s Linea, Grande Punto and Bravo launches. However Fiat denies any such thing as a delay and says it’s on schedule and the launches will happen as per the company’s original plan- Between September to December this year. A company press release declared that the launch of the [ Read More ]
