The Nissan GT-R, Honda FCX Clarity, Volkswagen Golf and Fiat 500 took crowns in this year’s World Car of the Year awards at the New York International Auto Show yesterday morning.

The GT-R toppled the competition which had all its real and virtual world rivals- Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and Porsche 911 Carrera.

Fiat attaches Start-Stop device to the 1.2-liter petrol 500

Fuel efficiency is the cornerstone of any small car sold anywhere today. Perhaps the most significant achievement in that sense is the Start-Stop technology, which pushes the engine into stand-by at traffic lights, reducing not only fuel usage but harmful emissions.

As announced earlier, Barbie’s 50th birthday present, a pink Fiat 500 painted in Barbie pink was displayed at the Geneva Motor Show. This was ofcourse gifted by Fiat, who designed the gift working closely with her maker Mattel.

Rinspeed E2 based on Fiat 500 Abarth

Tuner Rinspeed will display the E2, based on the Fiat 500 Abarth, at next month’s Geneva Motorshow. The E2 has a button, which through electronics, lets you access either 60hp or 160hp.

Fiat will take the wraps off of the new Fiat 500C (Fiat 500 Cabriolét) at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show next month, before its European launch in spring. But as IAB mentioned in a previous post, the official pictures had to be revealed today invariably.

Size wise, the Fiat 500C is the same as the Fiat 500 Hardtop and comes with the same engine options: 1.3L 75-Bhp Multijet Turbodiesel and the two 1.2L 69-Bhp and 1.4L 100-Bhp Petrol engines, mated to either manual or a Dualogic automatic transmission. The only difference being, an electrically-powered soft top.

Fiat will source parts for low cost car from India

The Italian Auto major -FIAT has said that India will play an important role in the launch of FIAT’s low cost car brand which is expected by year 2010.

Earlier, Fiat had plans of confining the low cost brand to the European markets. Now though, FIAT is considering India as a key hub for its new brand chiefly for supply of cheap yet durable components.
