The Bajaj ULC project was deployed into action by Nissan, Renault and Indian bike and 3-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj last year by displaying a prototype at the Delhi AutoExpo. Ever since the Nano was formally announced on March 23, the Bajaj’s Nano has drawn wide interest of the Indian public.
The Hindu Business Line reports Brazil will be an overseas market where the Bajaj ULC will be sold with either a Renault or Nissan logo. Additionally, the size of this car will be smaller than the cars sold presently in Brazil.
Nissan’s head Carlos Ghosn goes on air often hinting this small car would be priced around $2,500, but Rajiv Bajaj, MD Bajaj Auto, who conveys that only has been the direction of the project and not the intention.
The Bajaj’s small car will instead carve out its identity as the most fuel-efficient car instead of the cheapest, the former the framework of any low-cost motorcycle. As the project matures, the transmission type and related choices will be frozen.
According to the reports emerged before, the transmission would combine the best of an automatic and manual gearbox, and the engine would be a highly efficient 2-cylinder, of petrol and diesel forms.

There are talks about a facelifted Fiat Palio in India by the end of next year and this is the car which will do the job of reviving Palio sales in the country, if not anything else. It’s a refreshed Palio, with a lot of changes both on the inside and the outside. If Fiat has to capitalize the attention they have grabbed with the Linea or the Grande Punto, they have to introduce this model in India before it is too late.
It is a well-known fact that massive discounts are offered on both the petrol and diesel version (the diesel version isn’t very old, remember) and the 2010 Fiat Palio could change it all as it would be an all-in-all new car. We’re also offering a word of advise for Fiat at the end of this article.
Petrol Heads in India love the Fiat brand. I’m able to see the love Indians have for Fiats. The point is, they can’t do anything about it. Only Fiat can help it’s own self by carrying out changes to the current cars and the introducing the right cars, understanding the average Indian buyer’s psychology.
Regardless of the lethargic sales of passenger cars in India and a forecast that’s even more cloudy, Ford has announced it’s small car plans remain undisturbed.
“We have a strong plan for India, and we intend to go forward with it,” said Nigel E Warke, executive director, marketing, sales and service, Ford India.
Ford’s new small car will be based on the Verve Concept, a sub four meter, 3-door hatch shown at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. Earlier, reports claimed this small car would be produced in Ford’s other international plants such as the one in Brazil. The car will be available in both hatchback and sedan variants, meaning a platform would be developed to derive a range of vehicles.
The Fiat Palio has been around for, believe it or not, 12 years and facelifts are bound to happen eventually. Brazil will witness the launch of this facelifted Fiat Palio in a few weeks time.
The changes are minor with a revised grille and bumper, which now looks more like an Audi’s bumper. The headlamps are also different. Nothing is known about the interiors, but we think it should be totally revamped. Reports suggests that India will also embrace a facelifted Palio in a few months, and maybe this car is what they mean by that?
Indian car manufacturer, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) is finally going to launch its all new MPV (Multi Purpose Vehicle) XYLO in India on 13th January 2009. The car was due in December 2008 but due to recent Mumbai terror attacks M&M had also delayed the launch date.
Mahindra XYLO will hit showrooms by the 13th of this month, and you can book one from the 14th onwards.
Volkswagen recently released its new sedan- The Voyage in the South America. VW Voyage is an entry level, low cost subcompact car, which we think has the potential of seizing the market. This car is doing brisk sales in Argentina and Brazil, if released here, it would be the market leader.
