4X4OTY – Four wheel drive of the year

The Suzuki Vitara DDiS is not available in India, people expected it, but it wasn’t to be.

The Suzuki Vitara DDiS (Fiat’s Multijet engine) version earned itself the title of Australia’s best compact SUV at the 4X4OTY contest, judged by the reputed 4WD magazine editors in the country.

The competition was no where near easy, some of the tough and proven vehicles sold here in India too – Volkswagen Tiguan, Toyota RAV4, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan X-Trail, Jeep Wrangler, Subaru Forester and Honda CR-V.

Judges loved its steering, suspension, seating as they ruthlessly carefully put the cars through the off-road evaluation course.

Honda Australia have confirmed it will offer stability control as a standard feature in the City and Jazz. In Honda’s terms, it is known as Vehicle Stability Assist. These two cars will have an advantage over others in the range, as it offers skid stopping technology.

The feature is not available anywhere in this segment not even as a cost option. The Jazz in UK is already updated with a VSA in the higher end models and you have to spend some extra to get the feature in the base model.

The Jazz has already achieved a 4-star ANCAP safety rating and the City is yet to be tested. The Jazz earlier received a 5 star rating from Euro NCAP.

What brings smile on Honda customers’ face is that the company plans to bring this feature across the range with no extra charges by late 2010.

BMW launches Z4 in Australia

BMW has launched the Z4 convertible in Australia. The Australians get the choice of three straight-6 engines displacing 3.0 or 2.5 litres: 225 kW in the BMW Z4 sDrive35i, 190 kW in the BMW Z4 sDrive30i, and 150 kW in the BMW Z4 sDrive23i. The Z4 is expected in India by the year end with probably the least powerful engine.

The Fiat Linea was, or should I say is Fiat’s trump card, life jacket and oxygen mask in India. Preceding to the launch, their pulse rate was slipping in spite of such successful products like the Palio and the Siena, they were doing wretchedly in India.

Fiat’s Indian operation was counting on the Linea for its survival. And that was an excellent idea.

Fiat’s declared 4,600 Lineas were sold in the country since the launch on the third week of January. The sedan, which is offered in petrol and diesel formats, is carrying Fiat back in terms with the competition.

Fiat will use the Ranjangaon plant built with backing from Tata Motors as an export hub. Right-hand drive markets Australia and New Zealand will be the first to host Indian Lineas on its roads.

Fiat plans to introduce the Grande Punto in India in the coming months. Apart from that, a small car and a facelifted Palio will additionally occupy Tata showrooms before the end of next year.

2009 Mercedes Benz C-Class official body kit

The limited edition body kit of the 2009 Mercedes Benz C-Class has been announced in Australia. Dubbed as the “Limited Edition Sports Package,” it deals only with your C-Class’ appearance. The kit can be bolted on to the supercharged 135kW C 200 KOMPRESSOR and 400Nm C 220 CDI turbo-diesel and can be bought from any Mercedes Benz dealership in Australia.

The Holden Cruze (Chevrolet Cruze as we know it in India) has been officially announced in Australia with the same 2.0-liter turbo diesel, which debuted on Korean Chevrolet Cruze (named Daewoo Lacetti Premiere) earlier this year.

Toyota HC-CV (Hybrid Camry Concept Vehicle) has been revealed by Toyota, and this form the base for what will be Australia’s first hybrid car. The car will debut at the Melbourne International Motor Show, which will commence shortly.

Toyota Camry Facelift spied in China
