2011 suzuki swift

The next generation Suzuki Swift is reportedly nearing full development as Suzuki would be unveiling the 2011 Suzuki Swift at the Paris Motor show to held in October 2010.

Based on a completely new platform, the next-gen Swift derives almost all of its styling cues from the current generation Swift but has a much more sleeker, sporty air about it. The head-lamps on the test mule, for instance resemble the current car’s, but they are swept back and sharper.

The 2011 Suzuki Swift appears to have grown in size but this doesn’t show much thanks to the sleeker front fascia, which is a result of Suzuki’s new design language, first interpreted on the Suzuki Kizashi. The interiors of the 2011 Swift also seem to be more refined and classy compared to the current generation’s Swift.

The 2011 Suzuki Swift Sport is also rumored to come with all wheel drive, the testing of the Swift at the Nurburgring seem very suggestive to this speculation.

Suzuki would be hoping to give the new Swift a new engines. In addition to the current 1.2l KB series engine and the 1.6l VVT engine, a new 1.5l KB series engine could find its way under the hood of the 2011 Swift. These engines would be mated with a CVT transmission. Suzuki could also be planning to develop a low-cost plug-in hybrid Swift.

Also with a possible VW-Suzuki JV, Suzuki could also borrow VW torquey 1.2l and 1.6l TDI diesel engines which could end Fiat supplying the 1.3l Multijet diesel engine to Suzuki. The Swift could also get new direct-injection petrol engines mated to VW sourced DSG transmissions.

From the Indian context, the new Swift would find its ways to the showrooms before the first quarter of 2011. It is unclear whether Maruti Suzuki India would would be replacing the current model or selling the 2011 Swift alongside it.

We at Indian Autos Blog feel is that Maruti should for once do away with its habit of selling multiple generations of cars together and replace the Swift with the new model. As the new car wouldn’t drastically look different, this could trigger confusion among the consumers and could lead to a debacle.

2011 Suzuki Swift

Autoten, which in the past has reported major developments before anyone else on the internet, has come out with another startling development regarding the 2011 Suzuki Swift hatchback.

While many of us were expecting the new Swift to have economical K-Series engines (1.2, 1.5-liter petrol engines and 1.3 Multi-jet deisel engine), Autoten claims it will also come with a direct injection petrol engine displacing 1,200cc.

This engine will be joined by a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine generating 148hp and a 1.5-liter petrol engine, which we believe will be from the K-Series family for Asian markets like China and India.

Another piece of information to munch on is the appearance of the VW group’s 7-speed DSG transmission on the Swift. This particular variant will be for the European/Japanese market who conceive the Swift as a performance hatchback unlike Indians who look up to it as a family car.

Based on an all-new platform, the Suzuki Swift is growing up. It will be bigger than the current car and host higher displacement petrol engines. The new Swift will also get hybrid technology and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) for the American market. If the Swift is growing up, would the next generation SX4 be bigger as well?

Spied again – Next-generation Suzuki Swift

Spied testing at the Nurburgring (for interior spy shots, click here), Germany, the next-generation Suzuki Swift is undoubtedly losing camouflage with every passing day. The car’s design will be an evolution of the current model and it is supposedly arriving with the same appeal.

2011 Swift

That’s the right way to go. Why fix when it isn’t broken?

What the similarly modeled exterior hides is a completely new platform that is designed to house other kinds of powertrains. For India however, you can expect the 1.2-liter KB-Series engine to continue its duties. We have also reported on the usage of a 1.5-liter KB-Series engine.

Variable valve timing technology will also debut on the Swift for the first time. Turbochargers will also come, but not on the Indian model. Automatic transmissions could also find their place on the new Swift which debuts at the Paris Motor Show in September this year.

As far as the diesel is concerned, VW could supply diesel engines for the vehicle so the partnership between Suzuki and Fiat could come to an end shortly. We think the 1.2 TDI used on the similar sized Polo will be a perfect fit on the Swift.

Maruti hates to throw away its cars, and with the recent upgradation of the Swift to meet BS4 standards, it is difficult for us to think of a complete phase-out anytime soon.

The next gen Suzuki Swift will come with 1.2, 1.5 and 1.6-liter petrol engines

Autoten is reporting that the Next Generation Suzuki Swift will debut at 2010 Paris motor show. By October it will occupy showroom floors of Japan and by January 2011, it will debut in international markets.

The next generation Swift will be available with a wide variety of powertrains including a 1.2L petrol engine (codename K12B) with CVT transmission along with 1.3-liter (petrol/diesel not mentioned) and a all-new KB-series 1.5-liter petrol engine and new 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine

Autohome.com.cn is reporting that the sedan version of Next Generetion Suzuki Swift (Swift Dzire) will come earlier than expected. The website is reporting the new model will debut before the end of 2010. It will be a global B-Sedan measuring 4.2 metres in length.

2010 Suzuki Swift based on new platform

Suzuki-Swift-2010The next generation Swift resembles the current car albeit using a different platform

Looking at the latest batch of spyshots, one can easily be fooled into thinking the next generation Suzuki Swift is just a mildly modified version of the existing car.

Autocar UK reports the next generation Suzuki Swift debuting this year in UK, is based on a completely new platform. The new Swift is rumored to come with VW’s diesel engines, but in India, you can assume Suzuki will continue using the multi-jet engine from Fiat and the 1.2-liter K-Series engine (or a larger K-Series engine) which has just been rolled out.

The next generation Suzuki Swift is slightly bigger than the current model. It will have Kizashi inspired front fascia. Hybrid powertrains are also said to be in the works while CVT is rumored for the American market where the Swift will debut for the first time.

The Indian angle to the story is confusing. Maruti Suzuki hates to throw away its cars. Especially after the existing Swift has acquired a new 1.2-liter heart, we can’t think of them phasing out the existing model for the next few years at least. So how would the new Swift be positioned? Would this be the premium hatchback undercutting the Honda Jazz? Why would anyone want to buy a bigger Swift for the price of well equipped sedan? Maybe Suzuki can offer automatic transmission, climate control and such features which are lacking on the current Swift on the pricier version. Or they could simply phase out the existing model and bring the new Swift as the replacement.

Photoshop savant SRK has brought out the next generation Suzuki Swift scheduled for 2011 exclusively for Indian Autos Blog readers.

After careful analyzing spy shots of the vehicle taken around the world, SRK claims no concrete changes will occur to the existing design. Our sources have also said the future Swift will retain its character and offer similar levels of fun, a main reason for its success, in the next iteration also and increased practicality.

It will grow slightly to open up more space for rear passengers and possibly to contain battery packs for the hybrid variant made for the U.S market.

Examining the close-up spy shots of the next generation Suzuki Swift, you understand Suzuki isn’t making any sweeping changes. The easily identifiable silhouette stays untouched, while we still believe the dimensions have marginally gone up and the front fascia comes from the Kizashi. Quite a lot of speculations on the powertrain, a hybrid variant is also said to be in the pipeline.
