Nissan Leaf EV in India by 2011-12

Nissan-LEAF-India-1

Mr Kiminobu Tokuyama, CEO Nissan India, has said the company’s first mass-production EV will be sold in India in 2010-12.

Tokuyama claimed he had already requested the company’s HQ in Japan to conduct feasibility studies for instituting the recently unveiled EV in India. At the time of issuing this statement, he sounded confident of the Indian government’s support to such environmentally conscious products.

The Leaf is capable of traveling 160km on a single charge. When it comes to India, the import duties will inflate its cost by twice as much. Tokuyama also stressed on manufacturers working together and approaching the government for installing the necessary infrastructure across the country as most of them had EVs in their engineering centres.

The Nissan Leaf will go on sale by the end of next year globally.

The Tata Nano, costed over Rs 2,000 crore to the company, is likely to be launched in Nigeria within the next year and a half.

Currency conversion suggests that the NGN 360 price tag for the Nigerian Nano, is same as the India price tag of Rs. 1.23 lakh, which begs the question, Is the Nano going to be exported or be built there?

The car would be available for about NGN 360 for the base model, same as the price in the Indian markets. The car carries a price tag of Rs 1.23 lakh to Rs 1.72 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian capital for three variants.

Report – Future BMW 3 Series will use 3-cylinder engines

Sky Motoring reports future BMW 3 Series vehicles will make use of 3-cylinder engines (your Maruti 800 moves another notch closer to a BMW).

Just because they are one cylinder smaller, don’t be fooled into thinking they are slow and no go. One glance at the stats prove they are more powerful and torquier than the present family. They would also be lighter and cleaner and should I mention more fuel efficient?

The future BMW engine lineup -

x16i – 1.35-litre, 3-cylinder, 163bhp/140 lb-ft
x18i – 1.35-litre, 3-cylinder, 201bhp/162 lb-ft
x20i – 1.35-litre, 3-cylinder, 241bhp/192 lb-ft
x23i – 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, 273bhp/220 lb-ft
x25i – 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, 321bhp/258 lb-ft

You can refer our 2011 BMW 3-Series spy shots to know where these engines are going to report.

Since the engines are still under development, the figures might change a little. They are expected to reach a production line in two years.

More Information on Honda entry level car- A-Star and i10, get ready

Japanese Auto Major Honda has not had the best of time in the past few months. Thanks to a sharp drop in global sales and the frustrating economic slump, Honda had to call it a day on it’s supercar project and painfully had to pull the Formula 1 plug.

So what does one do to get out of this mess? Naturally build cars that will sell in larger numbers and will have a wider reach. Honda earlier announced that it will make an entry level car for India, but that was just about what it said.
