Volvo S80 2.5FT debuts in Thailand

The Volvo S80, Volvo’s flagship sedan is now available in Thailand with an E85 compatible engine. The Volvo S80 2.5FT is the first mass produced car in Thailand with an E85(Ethanol- 85%, Gasoline 15%) compliant engine. This comes after the Thailand Government decided to commercialize E85 fuel. ie- you can buy E85 from the local fuel station.

Fiat 1.4-liter petrol engine will power the 2009 Tata Indigo

Fiat has already begun production of the 1.4-liter petrol engine earlier this month at Ranjangoan, which will also power the upcoming Tata Indigo besides the Fiat Linea and Grande Punto.

The engine blocks for this petrol motor will be imported from Fiat’s plant situated in Brazil and the entire manufacturing including machining will be done at the new powertrain plant in Ranjangaon. Initial capacity is 70,000 powertrains per annum eventually going up to 300,000.

Italian car maker Fiat is planning to launch a new low cost brand in Europe and bring to the market, three models under a new low-cost brand tag.

Pricing would be lower than current Fiat models, which have moved marginally upscale. An example: Fiat 500 was once (in the 60’s) the brand’s cheap city car, but the latest generation is more of a lifestyle vehicle. Fiat would make something similar to the 500, but would cost a lot lesser.

Nissan Electric Vehicle in 2012- Affordable Lithium Ion Technology

Although Nissan may be lagging behind its cross-country rivals in hybrid technology, the Japanese automaker is moving full steam ahead with with its electric vehicle plans. Nissan is just as ready to do battle on this front as well (after the famous GT-R & Porsche Nurburgring row)

“The difference is that we have made different choices. Several automakers chose to experiment with hybrid vehicles, but everyone knows this technology is only transitional. We have concentrated on what we believe to be the real solution in the future, electric cars. And from this point of view, our technology is already well established,” claims Nissan’s spokesperson.

Nissan’s EV will have an operating range of 160 kilometres, recharge to 80 % capacity in less than 26 minutes and cost less than 70 cents per full charge. We put it head to head with the Tata Nano. Read to find out more.

Hyundai Accent/Verna has emerged triumphant and retains Crown, after fighting a bitter battle with Nissan earlier this month, when Nissan claimed that its new $9,990 Versa Sedan 1.6 is the cheapest car in the U.S. However, the title was gained by forgoing the necessary features every car should have including a stereo and an air conditioning system. Today, Hyundai claims that its new 2009 Hyundai Accent with a starting price of $9,970 is the least expensive car in the U.S. That’s a very ‘cheap’ title indeed!
