The FF is a design hybrid of a hatchback and a shooting brake. It has space for four and with the seats folded can carry 800 liters of luggage.

For 3.42 crore rupees, you get a 6.2-liter V12 engine that outputs 660 horsepower and 682Nm of torque that rockets the FF to a top speed of 335kph. You also get a hatchback body style surprisingly with a prancing horse on the bonnet.

The FF is Ferrari’s first ever four wheeled drive shooting brake model. When you look at the Ferrari FF there is an instant connect with the 458 Italia. But it’s not the sort of Ferrari that you see in your dreams because it is essentially a 4 seater hatchback.

Oh yes, the FF is Ferrari’s idea of an everyday practical car. Practical it may be, but there is nothing even remotely hum drum of the performance it is capable of.

Powered by a 6.2L V12 engine that generates 660 Bhp at 8,000 rpm with a peak torque of 682 Nm at 6,000 rpm, the FF hits 100km/hr in just 3.7 seconds. Keep your foot down and it will reach 335 km/hr easy peasy.

But the most fascinating aspect is the 4 wheeled drive which offers tons of grip even when the going gets tough. Tarmac, gravel, snow, sand, you name it and Ferrari FF will get you there without breaking a single drop of sweat.

The starting prices are expected to be around 3.5 Cr. But interestingly, Ferrari earlier made a press statement that all FF models are sold out till the summer of 2012. So expect a huge waiting period on the FF in India. Have a look at this video to get up close with the FF.

The weird part is that 9 out of that 10 times, the person would have never ever even seen an actually Ferrari but he would still want one. Such is the charm of the word ‘FERRARI’. For a layman it conjures up images of a red car sitting on top of the sportscar world with a crown on its head.

For a thorough petrolhead, it brings images of a young racing driver who sacrificed his entire life to create the greatest Formula 1 team of all time. FERRARI – a word synonymous to speed, heritage, passion and victory. So you can imaging how chuffed we were when we got the chance to visit (what can only be defined as) Petrolhead Nirvana – Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – A one of its kind theme park dedicated to the glorious heritage of Ferrari.

Under development for over 5 years, Ferrari World finally opened its gate to visitors on Oct 28, 2010. This mammoth 2,200,000 sq ft theme park is a joint venture between the Italian car maker and Aldar Properties and is situated just next to Yas Marina Circuit where the epic battle for the world championship took place last year.

The moment you enter the park you can feast your eyes on an actually Ferrari F1 car kept at the entrance. Get a little further and you see a selection of latest Ferrari road cars including the 599, the California and the absolutely stunning (and my current favorite) – the 458 Italia. When you have a look at the Italia, you truly do go weak in your knees. This car is the epitome of car design. It is menacing to look at; every curve, every angle is as sharp as a samurai’s sword.

But the Italia is not the best car that you will see in the park……oh no….that title goes to the majestic, the superlative, the most primeval Supercar (and to put it better in statistical numbers) – The fastest production of its time – The Ferrari F40. This is the first car to have its entire body made of carbon fiber. All the current light-weight supercars – the Pagani Huayra, the Koenigsegg CCX, etc find their roots to this very car.

It is so lightweight that there are only 11 pieces in the whole of the body work. Some even argue that this is the best Ferrari ever made and I am certainly one of them. But what I miss the most about this car is that HUGE spoiler. Car design has evolved a lot over the years and no designer these days would even think of putting such a garish spoiler on the top of his creation. We are never going to see these ostentatiously brash 1980’s supercars ever in the future owing to government regulations, fuel crisis, economy and other such boring reasons.

The Ferrari world – keeping up to its name – also houses the fastest roller-coaster in the World a.k.a Formula Rossa. It has a top speed of 240 kilometers per hour (150 mph) and it reaches there in a mind boggling 4.9 seconds. You need to have guts made of pig iron to keep your food down.

The theme park also has a theater which shows how motor racing took place in the early days of Targa Florio when there was no big money, no technology, no glamor; just men with a passion of cars and a desire to win.

The experience of visiting such a place is truly one of its kind. So obviously we had to share it with you. Have a look at the pics and tell us what you think!

As we type this in, IAB representative Bharat Iyer is sitting at the inauguration of the Ferrari’ first showroom in India at Janpath, New Delhi. Ferrari invited Indian Autos Blog to be part of this very special launch which also marks the Prancing Horse’ official entry into the exotic car-loving nation.

We are anticipating  to see key models from the range today on the showroom floor. Prices and waiting periods will also be made clear during the course of today’ event. Like any or every other launch, IAB will try to bring you the prices and pointers from conference first, so stay tuned !

Situated in Janpath, Ferrari New Delhi was built in a period of 90 days. It is 5k sq.ft in area with space for three display vehicles. A showroom in Mumbai will come up in early 2012 as Ferrari aims three digit sales in the next three years. It is also studying other locations to open additional outlets. The entire Ferrari range is available in India and one main reason for the delayed entry was the search for the right partner. Cars that stand for racing, technology and exclusivity, Ferrari will not leave customers to research and decide the right car. They will educate customers and potential customers on the brand’s pedigree and everything on this world-famous supercar brand.

Ferrari says its cars will run on 97 Octane gasoline due the engine’ higher compression ratios. Cars will take three to twelve months for delivery from the time of booking and waiting periods depend on the model and level of customization requested. Service intervals are long – once in a year or every 10,000km.

The Chinese market (one of Ferrari’ largest markets in the world) differs in terms of positioning, but people are equally passionate about these cars.

The Ferrari India invasion has been talked about on the Indian blogosphere since a year now. But the blogosphere heated up when Ferrari officially appointed Shreyans Group as their official partners.

A lot depends on India, Latin America and China. There is growth potential there

China is predicted to be Ferrari’ third largest market by the end of 2011 with sales projection of 500 cars, up from 300 last year. Ferrari has tied up with Shreyan’ group here in India to distribute the complete portfolio.

Shreyans will have two dealerships in India – one in Mumbai and another in Delhi. 24 cars were allocated to India in 2011 out of which 14 were taken by the end of March. If Ferrari cannot sustain the high levels of growth in China and Japan, it will look at markets like India and Latin America to reach its annual targets.

This is a custom built GTO flaunting the Indian Tricolor Flag on the bonnet. Probably will be a one off as well.

For those who are not aware about this car: It is basically a road going version of the 599XX – a car that used to hold a Nurburgring lap record. Ferrari says that the 599 GTO is the fastest road car ever to be able to lap the Fiorano test circuit in 1 minute 24 seconds.

And we believe that because that monstrous V12 engine produces 670 PS with 620 Nm. It can reach 100 km/h in less than 3.35 seconds and has a top speed of over 335 km/h. It is also lighter than the normal 599 by 100 kgs.

From the pics you can see that the car is left hand drive which is going to be a bit of a problem at custom. Do we see another ‘Ferrari-Cricketer’ controversy in the making?

The cars confirmed so far are Ferrari California, 458 Italia, GTB599 Fiorano as well as their latest shooting brake FF. The price will start from 2.2 crores and then really sky is the limit.

According to the company sources, Ferrari has allocated 24 cars for India in 2011 out of which 14 cars are already sold.

The Prancing Horse is all set to run on wild on the Indian streets. Ferrari has tied up with the Shreyans Group which deals in high-end luxury goods, to establish its dealership network in India. The company will start its operations at the beginning of the financial year in April 2011.

The announcement also comes as a shocker to us because we were expecting them to partner with the Tata (given their relationship with Fiat and Ferrari F1 team). But I guess that wouldn’t have given Ferrari the ‘Exclusive Status’ that it needs. Plus, Shreyans already has experience in selling super luxury brands as it is sole distributor for Porsche in India and until recently, sold and serviced Audis in Mumbai.

Nonetheless, Ferrari will set up its first shop in Delhi and then in Mumbai. The model that will be brought to India initially will be the 458 Italia. The new Ferrari FF will also follow suit. Looking at a demand for luxury goods in India, Ferrari could easily record a double digit growth in the first year of its entry.
