2011 Suzuki Swift caught testing again

Set to make its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 2010, Suzuki Swift’s successor will have big shoes to fill. A new set of spy images has surfaced from which instantaneously make out the retention of Swift’s unique design.

The whole car seems to have grown bigger and with a longer rounded hood. Obviously, the new Swift will be offering front wheel drive. We hear that there will be a choice of petrol engines, producing between 90 and 130 bhp of power.

Fiat’s new generation of Multijet diesel engines will take care of the propulsion and a hybrid variant is also expected in 2011. Prices will be announced after the car’s launch, but will most likely be marginally higher than the current version. Customers of the Swift are quick to complain of its lack of interior space.

Suzuki has to tackle the hybrid component storage smartly if they have to continue marketing the Swift as a family hatchback.

Spied – Chevrolet Agile interiors

GM’s mass market car for emerging markets – The Chevrolet Agile, has been featured on IAB numerous times, mostly in the form of spyshots. But not many of us got to see the interiors until now.

The car was caught in San Antonio de Areco (Argentina). Despite the reflections in the images, you can see that the Agile is banking on a design code than we see quite often in Chevrolet’s compact segment. Besides the large seat bolsters, the seat is well inclined with projections for under-thigh support.

Also note the circular air-vents, which has become quite common in all small cars. The gear shift position and the high placement of the air conditioning system is similar to the layout in Chevrolet Captiva SUV.

Among other details you might also notice that the steering wheel is three spoked, which is going to be the trend in the new generation models yet to come from GM.

Old Opels can now be Traded-in for new Chevys

A few weeks back, Karl Slym, MD of GM India hinted it, now its official. Old Opel cars like Astra and Corsa can now be traded-in for newer and cleaner Chevrolet models.

This comes as a customer loyalty initiative and is a Limited period offer. So, if you are an Opel owner wanting to get rid of your old car, here’s what you do.

Take the Opel to a GM dealership for an inspection. Upon inspection by certified engineers, the car will be evaluated and a selling price will be quoted. To make the trade-in easier on your pocket, GM has roped in many public and private sector banks to offer low EMI schemes for new Chevys. You will also be offered free accessories worth Rs 10,000 by the dealer as part of the Opel exchange program.

OMG! Chevrolet Aveo & UV-A in Levi’s

Car abuse can’t get any worse and Chevys have been the targets of late. Quite predictably, it has happened in China, a place where anything and everything from Tata Nano to Rolls-Royce Phantom has a cloned twin.

Since all the cars sold in the world have been duplicated in China, the Chinese have come up with a brilliant plan to overcome the shortage of models to copy from – clone from a clothing line!

As part of an initiative named ‘East meets West’, Levis Strauss met Chevrolet (couldn’t figure out which of these represents the East), and the result of that is shown in these pictures.

Fahrmitgas.de – the official supplier of LPG systems for Chevrolet, has developed its version Chevrolet Captiva called MOONLANDER to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first moon landing on July 20, 1969.

Thankfully, only 40 of the MOONLANDERS will be built. For a price of 21,500 Euros one needs to be a complete ‘Lunar’tic to buy one of these, but if you buy one accidentally, worry not for there is a redeeming feature. It comes with a replica space suit with a helmet, so that you can hide yourself from the onlookers! The space suit would actually save the blushes and the pedestrian abuse.

Malaysia gets a new 2.0L VT-i Honda Accord

The Malaysian market got a new Honda Accord variant today, with a less powerful 2.0L VTi engine but more equipment under its sleeve.

The new variant comes with leather interiors, cruise control, an 8-way electrically-adjustable driver’s seat with power lumbar support, leather door linings and door mirrors with turn signals. Priced at RM149,800 OTR, it offers better value for money than the 2.4L model(RM171,800) but only with one compromise, ‘Umph’.

Honda is also offering a new colour called Taffeta White for the Accord range. There is also a Stolen Vehicle Recovery (SVR) system available as an optional extra. It is a GPS and GSM based security system which can transmit the car’s GPS coordinates to a central operating center via the mobile network, so that the owner is aware of the car’s location.

The age of diesel engines for motorcycles, some believe began (and ended) with the Royal Enfield Bullet Taurus. It needed a backbone made of steel, and teeth of titanium to bare the vibrations and harshness of riding one. If you were driving near one, you needed ear plugs.

While diesel engine have evolved to such a level that it terrorizes the gasoline engine’s existence, its application has began widening. Now Yamaha has put its head out and it could be the first manufacturer to offer diesel engines of 2-wheelers commercially.

Yamaha has filed patents for a new family of motorcycle-size turbodiesel engines in both inline-four and twin-cylinder layouts.

Obviously a diesel engine is heavy and big. Packaging needs to be thought out and that’s what these patents deal with. The arrangement of the different parts is matched to a 2-wheeler’s structure, for example the intercooler is placed above the engine saving space and the bike’s fuel tank is moved backwards.
