Maruti Baleno outsells Maruti Swift in May 2018

Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate sales in the Indian PV market in May 2018. As per the latest figures, the Maruti Baleno outsold the Maruti Swift to claim the third spot on the top 10 best sellers list last month.

The Maruti Baleno grabbed the third spot on the top 10 best-selling cars list clocking 19,398 units in May 2018. The top two spots were occupied by the Maruti Dzire and Maruti Alto - in that order.

In May 2018, the Maruti Baleno clocked 19,398 units edging out the 2018 Maruti Swift by just 19 units. The Swift registered sales of 19,208 units, a drop of 3,568 units over the previous month. Overall, the company continued to dominate sales with 7 models in the top 10 with the top 6 spots occupied by a Maruti Suzuki product.

The list was, once again, topped by the Maruti Dzire with total sales of 24,365 units, despite a slight drop as compared to April. It was followed by the Maruti Alto with 21,890 units. The only other manufacturer to feature in the top 10 was Hyundai with the Creta, Grand i10, and i20. These models sold 11,004, 10,939, and 10,664 units respectively. The launch of the 2018 Hyundai Creta seems to have given sales a boost.

The recently launched 2018 Honda Amaze just missed out on a top 10 spot despite getting off to a strong start selling 9,789 units. The Tata Nexon continued its strong run selling 4,000+ units for the sixth month on the trot. Ford's Freestyle clocked 3,027 units in its first full month on sale becoming the second highest selling product for the American car maker after the EcoSport, which registered sales of just over 5,000 units.

Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate sales with seven models in the top 10. The only other manufacturer to feature in the top 10 was Hyundai with three products - Creta, Grand i10, and i20.

Cumulative passenger vehicle sales for MSIL stood at 1,61,200 units in the domestic market translating to a market share of more than 54%. The second highest selling car manufacturer was Hyundai with 45,008 units sold in May 2018. Mahindra (18,827), Tata (17,489), and Honda (15,864) round off the top 5.
