In April 2018, it was reported that Bajaj Auto is working on an all-new Pulsar 125 variant to launch by April 2019. A new report from Money Control suggests that Bajaj Auto is planning an onslaught in the premium commuter segment, and it is inferred that the baby Pulsar would be the torchbearer.

The new Bajaj Pulsar 125 will reportedly take design inspiration from the Pulsar 135 LS (pictured). It will compete against the Hero Glamour 125 & Honda CB Shine SP.

According to the report, Bajaj Auto performed worse than expected in the commuter and commuter deluxe segment, as the company did not meet the set targets with the Discover. The commuter segment is dominated by the Honda CB Shine SP and the Hero Splendor 125. Bajaj Auto plans to compete more vigorously in this segment by introducing "more attractive models and sub-models" at the lower end of the commuter segment.

In the deluxe commuter segment, the company will introduce the new Bajaj Pulsar 125, which should compete against the Hero Glamour 125. The upcoming safety norms mandate motorcycles up to 125cc to be equipped with CBS (Combined Braking System), while that above 125cc will have to feature at least a single-channel ABS unit. The Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS will be affected by this mandate as including an ABS unit will add to the cost of the motorcycle. The CBS unit on the new Pulsar 125 will not only be cost effective but will also help the company to price the bike aggressively against the competition.

The Pulsar 125 is expected to be powered by a revised version of the 124.6 cc single-cylinder, 4-valve unit that powered the Bajaj Discover 125 ST. This twin-spark motor produces 13 bhp of power at 9,000 rpm and 10.8 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Rumors are rife that the new Pulsar 125 will be ‘Light and Sporty’; however, it isn’t certain whether the company will use the ‘LS’ suffix on the Pulsar 125. That said, the bike would receive fresh styling to feel new. The new Bajaj Pulsar 125 will be the entry-level model in the Pulsar range and will serve as a sportier alternative in the premium commuter segment.
