Suzuki unveiled the second generation Ertiga in April in Indonesia, and the re-engineered and redesigned MPV went on sale the following month. First video reviews of the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga from the Indonesian media are out now.

Mobil123 says the chassis fully supports the improved acceleration of the car, and the tester feels it is more stable in the corners and has a shorter braking distance than the first generation. The noticeable improvement comes thanks to the new VGR steering system (variable gear ratio).

In the Indonesian market, the Ertiga packs the new 1.5 L K15B petrol engine replacing the 1.4 L mill that serves the Indian Ertiga. This 4-cylinder engine produces max power of 104.7 PS at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 138 Nm at 4,400 rpm, an increment of 13 PS and 8 Nm over the K14B. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic. The car presented in the video is the automatic variant of the 2018 Suzuki Ertiga, which has claimed fuel efficiency of 16.73 km/l in the Indonesian test cycle.

Suzuki's Heartect platform forms the basis of the Ertiga. The new underpinning that has generated the very fuel efficient Maruti Swift, Maruti Dzire and the Suzuki Baleno lowers vehicle kerb weight despite an overall increment in size. The 2018 Suzuki Ertiga is 4,395 mm long, 1,735 mm wide, and 1,690 mm tall, making it 130 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and 5 mm taller than its predecessor.

The Ertiga tested in the video appears as the GL grade lacking fog lamps, steering mounted controls, and faux wood garnish on the steering wheel. Features on offer include projector headlamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a touchscreen unit (optional), manual air conditioning, and rear AC vents. The GL grade also misses out on LED tail lamps, smart key and push button start/stop, ORVMs with integrated turn signals, electric folding ORVMs, and driver's seat height adjustment.

Suzuki offers the following colour choices on the 2018 Ertiga -

  • Metallic Magma Grey
  • Pearl Glorious Brown
  • Metallic Silky Silver
  • Prime Cool Black
  • Pearl Snow White
  • Peal Burgundy Red
  • Pearl Radiant Red

The test unit seen in the video is finished in Pearl Burgundy Red. Metallic Magma Grey and Pearl Glorious Brown are the new additions to the exterior colour choices.

The launch of the 2018 Maruti Ertiga in India reportedly is in August. The Indian spec model, compared to the Indonesian car, will get additional features like a 7-inch Smartplay touchscreen infotainment setup and an automatic climate control. Importantly, there will be a diesel variant on offer. The 1.5 L petrol variant is likely to benefit from mild hybrid tech to set a new fuel efficiency benchmark.
