The Toyota Yaris sedan is manufactured in Bidadi, Karnataka.

The latest development was revealed by Shekar Viswanathan, Vice Chairman and Whole Time Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor. While speaking about the impact of the depreciating Rupee value on product launches, Mr. Viswanathan said: “It (localisation) is 87% in the case of level one of Yaris sedan and we can go up to 91-92% in the order of the magnitude.” “We will never be able to achieve 100% as there will be some bit that will always be imported and it is good as well,” he added.

The Toyota Yaris is 4,425 mm long, 1,730 mm wide and 1,495 mm high. It has a 2,550 mm wheelbase. Under the hood, is the 2NR-FE 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i petrol engine, which is married to a 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This naturally aspirated four-cylinder mill develops 107 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. A diesel engine option is unavailable and not planned for a later introduction either. The B-segment sedan has a fuel economy rating of 17.1 km/l (MT)/17.8 km/l (CVT).

The Yaris is positioned above the Toyota Platinum Etios (Toyota Etios Sedan) and available in four equipment lines. Projector headlamps with LED light guide, LED DRLs, 15-inch alloy wheels, LED rear combination lamps with line guide, Shark fin antenna, roof-mounted air vents and power driver seat are some of the car’s main features. On the safety front, the new sedan comes with 7 airbags, HSA, VSC, ABS with EBD and BA, TPMS, front and rear parking sensors and reverse camera. All this make it one of the safest cars in its segment, at least on paper.
