BMW revealed the BMW M5 Competition earlier this month. According to a report from Autocar India, the company will launch this model in India. The BMW M5 Competition builds up on the regular BMW M5 with a number of visual and performance enhancements.
It sports a more potent version of the M5’s 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine. This retuned version produces 625 PS at 6,000 rpm and 750 Nm of torque at 1,800-5,800 rpm. This means that the maximum power is 25 PS higher, while the maximum torque is the same.
The BMW M5 Competition accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, a tenth of a second quicker than the BMW M5. A 0-200 km/h sprint takes 10.8 seconds - 0.3 seconds lesser than the M5. The top speed, both as standard and even with the optional M Driver’s Package, remains the same at 250 km/h and 305 km/h respectively. With a ground clearance of 128 mm, the M5 Competition variant rides 7 mm lower.
The BMW M5 Competition’s front axle is equipped with a newly designed mounting for the anti-roll bar. The springs at the front and rear axles are 10% stiffer than on the BMW M5, resulting in a firmer ride. Shorter auxiliary springs and a unique tuning of the damper hydraulics reduce the fluctuation in the wheel loads.
The BMW M5 Competition gets its unique appearance via 20-inch forged wheels in a Y-spoke design and a bi-colour finish. These specially developed wheels are shod with 275/35 R 20 tyres (front)/285/35 R 20 tyres (rear). Other distinctive design features include door openers painted entirely in body colour, various elements finished in high-gloss black and M5 Competition logo on the boot lid.
Inside, the BMW M5 Competition gets black seat belts with an understated striped pattern in BMW M colours, floor mats with model-specific piping and M5 logo and an M Competition graphic that shows up in the instrument cluster to greet the driver on start.
The BMW M5 Competition’s launch is expected to take place soon after the BMW M2 Competition, which will arrive around Diwali this year.
