We have heard rumours about the BMW 2 Series Coupe’s launch in India for over a year now. The latest development on that front, as per a new report from Autocar India, suggests that BMW will bring the BMW 2 Series carline to India with the launch of the BMW M2 Competition.

The BMW M2 Competition is the top-of-the-line BMW 2 Series Coupe. It was introduced just last month as a replacement for the BMW M2 Coupe. It looks slightly different from the BMW M2 Coupe because of some design and performance-oriented changes. BMW has introduced two new exterior colours: Sunset Orange metallic and Hockenheim Silver metallic. The latter is exclusive to the BMW M2 Competition.

At the front, the BMW M2 Competition has an enlarged BMW kidney grille, a new front apron with enlarged air intakes and an additional engine oil cooler. Changes on the sides include new M ORVMs, new 19-inch forged alloy wheels and M Sport brakes with enlarged brake discs and grey brake callipers. At the rear, the new model is distinguished by newly designed quad tailpipes and an M Competition badge.

The BMW M2 Competition has some interior revisions as well. The driver and passengers are greeted by the M2 Competition logo on the door sill. The newly designed instrument cluster displays the M2 Competition logo for a few seconds. There’s a new red engine start-stop button that underlines the car’s motorsport heritage - a feature borrowed from the sixth-gen BMW M5. The driver and front passenger sit in new M Sport seats with backrests featuring an illuminated M2 logo at shoulder height.

The main highlight of the BMW M2 Competition is the engine lying under its hood. It’s the new 3.0-litre bi-turbo inline six-cylinder petrol engine based on the BMW M3 and BMW M4’s engine. It delivers 410 PS at 5,250-7,000 rpm and 550 Nm of torque at 2,350-5,200 rpm. A 6-speed manual transmission or the 7-speed M dual-clutch automatic transmission sends drive to the rear wheels. A 0-100 km/h sprint takes just 4.2 seconds (7-DCT)/4.4 seconds (6-MT). The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. The optional M Driver’s Package raises the top speed to 280 km/h - 10 km/h more than with the BMW M2 Coupe.
