The Nissan Terra is a PPV based on the third generation Nissan Navara, and that is clearly apparent in its design. The new body-on-frame SUV is the successor to the Nissan Xterra, which was also known as Nissan Paladin. It is pitted against the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Isuzu MU-X and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

The Nissan Terra measures 4.9 metres in length, 1.9 metres in width and 1.8 metres in height. It has a 2.9-metre wheelbase and a 225 mm ground clearance. In China, only a 5-seat configuration is available. In the Philippines, the Terra is offered with a 7-seat layout. Most markets are likely to get the three-row version.

Another aspect that varies with the market is the engine employed. China gets the Nissan Terra with the QR25 2.5-litre petrol engine that produces 184 PS at 6,000 rpm and 251 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. In the Philippines, Nissan offers the YD25 2.5-litre diesel engine instead. The diesel engine develops 190 PS at 3,600 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Transmission choices in both the markets are 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic. A part-time 4WD system with a locking rear differential is optional.

In addition to China and the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia will also get the Nissan Terra this year. In fact, Thailand will serve as the production hub for these and other global markets excluding China. Nissan has confirmed five more markets where it will sell the new SUV: Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. There's no word on the Indian launch yet.
