2018 Maruti Swift waiting period set to reduce in 6 months - Report

The 2018 Maruti Swift has been in very high demand since its launch in February at the Auto Expo with over 1 lakh bookings recorded. As per CarAndBike, the waiting period for the Swift, which stretches up to nine months in a few cases, will come down.

As per the report, waiting the period of certain variants of the Swift has gone up to 9 months.

The first production line at parent company Suzuki's production facility in Gujarat will start operating at full capacity by the end of this year. This will push total output from the plant up to 2.5 lakh units annually. The increment in production will help Maruti reduce backlogs of the Swift and Baleno.

R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Limited told NDTV:

The first line will be running at full capacity by the end of 2018 and will make 2.5 lakh vehicles, possibly even more. The second line is expected to kick into action in January 2019 and will slowly ramp up production while the third line with be complete by April 2020. Each line will make 2,50,000 vehicles, which will give a total capacity of 7.5 lakh vehicles a year from Gujarat."

Waiting periods of Maruti cars have come down over the past three months or so. As per the report, the average number of buyers waiting for a Maruti Suzuki products has come down from 1.25 lakhs to 1.10 lakhs. Despite being in the market for more than two and half years, the Maruti Baleno still commands a waiting period of 4 months.

The 2018 Maruti Swift is available with 1.2 L Petrol and 1.3 L Diesel engine options mated with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. The 2018 Maruti Swift petrol starts from INR 4.99 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), while the diesel variants are priced INR 5.99 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) onwards.
