A unique feature of the motorcycle is its advanced DCT gearbox.

The 2018 Honda Africa comes with a plethora of upgrades to improve its rideability. The motorcycle features an updated Throttle By Wire (TBW) and an expanded Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) system. Whereas the 2017 Africa Twin had three levels of HSTC, plus ‘OFF’, the new system features seven levels—from Level 1, for aggressive riding off-road on block-pattern tires, to Level 7, for maximum sense of security on slippery, wet tarmac. It is still possible to turn HSTC completely off, and there are also three levels of power and engine braking available. There are four riding modes- Tour, Urban, Gravel and User. The engine features a bi-axial balancer shaft for optimum refinement, and a lighter lithium-ion battery is standard.

The 2018 model also comes with auto-cancelling indicators, and sturdier, wider footpegs.

The 998 cc parallel twin with liquid cooling and fuel injection pairs with a 6-speed DCT unit. Suspension bits include 45 mm upside-down front fork, and a Pro-Link monoshock at the rear. The adventure tourer comes to a halt using dual 310 mm petal discs up front and a 256 mm rear disc, both with ABS. Once launched, the 2018 Honda Africa Twin would rival the Triumph Tiger 800 range, Ducati Multistrada 950, Kawasaki Versys 1000, and Suzuki V-Strom 1000.
