Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R to enter the country as SKD kit - Report

As per Autocar India’s sources, Kawasaki is planning to bring the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R as Semi-Knocked Down kits (SKD) from Japan, and assemble them at its Chakan plant near Pune.

Highlights of electronics include power modes, 5-mode traction control, Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), with ABS, launch control and engine braking control.

The website reports that the move will likely bring the price of the motorcycle down to below INR 14 lakhs. At present, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R costs INR 18.8 lakhs, ex-showroom. When it enters the market as SKD unit, it would be the most affordable litre-class performance motorcycle in the country. Currently, the cheapest litre-class track tamer is the Honda CBR 1000RR, which reportedly underwent a price reduction post the tax revision. The bike reportedly costs INR 14.78 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi.

According to the media site, the launch of the SKD version of the ZX-10R is likely to happen in June. Recently, it was reported that the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR was offered at a dealer-level discount of INR 4 lakhs. Coming back to the ZX-10R, it features a 998 cc in-line four DOHC engine. The mill is good for 210 PS with ram-air at 13,000 rpm, and 113.5 Nm of torque at 11,500 rpm. The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R rivals the Honda CBR 1000RR, Suzuki GSX-R1000, BMW S 1000 RR and Yamaha YZF-R1.
