Audi India’s current entry-level SUV is the Audi Q3. According to a report from The Economic Times, the company plans to launch an SUV positioned below this model, possibly the Audi Q2.

The Audi Q2 is Audi's cheapest SUV currently on sale globally.

Speaking to the business publication recently, Audi India Head Rahil Ansari said: “In order to gain customer base, we will introduce products in the volume segment, below A3 and Q3, in the next two-three years.” Mr. Ansari did not confirm that the new entry-level is the Audi Q2, but it is highly unlikely that he was referring to anything else.

The Audi Q2 was introduced in early 2016 and went on sale internationally later that year. Last year, Audi sold 93,483 units of its latest baby SUV. Underpinned by the MQB platform, the Audi Q2 measures 4.19 metres in length, 1.79 metres in width and 1.51 metres in height. It has a wheelbase of 2.60 metres and it offers 145 mm of ground clearance. A long-wheelbase version is arriving in China this year, and in 2016, a report had said that this is the version (in RHD) under consideration for India.

The Audi Q2 is available with 116 PS 1.0L TFSI petrol, 150 PS 1.4L TFSI petrol and 190 PS 2.0L TFSI petrol, 150 PS 1.6L TDI diesel and 190 PS 2.0L TDI diesel engines. 6-speed manual transmission and 7-speed S tronic automatic are the transmission choices. Power goes to the front wheels in all configurations except those with the 2.0L TDI engine, as they are fitted with the quattro permanent AWD system.

Noteworthy features of the Audi Q2 include LED headlights and LED rear lights with dynamic turn signals, stylish C-pillar blades, 19-inch wheels, Audi virtual cockpit, head-up display, 8.3-inch MMI navigation plus infotainment system, Audi phone box with wireless charging and 705-watt, 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.
