New Hyundai Santro (Hyundai AH2) launch in August 2018 - Report

In August last year, Hyundai confirmed that it will launch a new compact car in the second half of 2018. The new hatchback (codename: Hyundai AH2) will be launched in August reports CarToq. Multiple reports indicate that the car will revive the Hyundai Santro nameplate in India.

The Hyundai Santro will be based on the Hyundai i10's platform as per a report from CarToq.

As per the report, the Hyundai AH2 aka Hyundai Santro will be based on the i10' platform. It will measure 1,560 mm tall, 10 mm taller than the Hyundai i10, and will be 10-15 mm wider as well. CarToq also claims that it will utilise a retuned version of the i10's 1,086 cc petrol engine producing around 70 bhp and 100 Nm. Hyundai has confirmed that the hatchback will debut the company's first AMT gearbox, a 5-speed unit.

In terms of features, the report adds that the Hyundai Santro could come with a digital-analog instrument console, a touchscreen infotainment system. A driver's side airbag could be standard.

The Hyundai AH2 (codename) will, reportedly, go on sale in August 2018 priced from just under 3 lakh Rupees.

Hyundai will be targeting Tata Tiago and Maruti Celerio buyers with the new Santro. Pricing-wise, the car will be sandwiched between the Eon and the Grand i10. In fact, according to CarToq's report, the AH2 will replace the Eon as it will be unable to meet the stricter safety standards that will be coming into place. The report places the starting price of the Hyundai Santro at just under INR 3 lakhs.
