The Tata 45X Concept that debuted at the 2018 Auto Expo last week previews a platform that could potentially spawn multiple models including a premium hatchback and a sedan. Our automotive illustrator has created a rendering of what a production-spec version (Tata X451) of the Tata 45X may look like.

The 45X concept will inspire Tata's upcoming Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 rival.

Based on the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy, the 45X features sharper cuts and creases. The futuristic-looking LED-headlamps of the concept have been replaced by conventional ones with LED DRLs. Towards the side, it features the same DLO as the concept but adds bits like conventional door handles, ORVM, and smaller tyres to give it a more production-ready form.

The production version of the Tata 45X concept will have a body measuring not more than four metres in length. It will be the first model underpinned by the Agile Light Flexible Advanced Architecture, internally known as the ‘Advanced Modular Platform’ (AMP). Only 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel models are expected at launch, but a pure electric variant could follow later. The new platform is electric-powertrain ready.

The hatchback based on the concept has been spotted testing on multiple occasions and is expected to go on sale in 2019 as per a report from September last year. Rivals of the premium hatchback will include the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20.
