Mahindra & Mahindra will drop slow-selling models from its lineup as per a report from Money Control. While the company has not explicitly mentioned the names of the cars in question, the Mahindra Xylo, Mahindra NuvoSport, and the Mahindra Verito could be the casualties.

The Mahindra NuvoSport has barely managed to register double-digit sales over the last six months

The publications quotes Dr. Pawan Goenka, managing director, Mahindra & Mahindra -

We have to meet BS-VI in all of our products. We have already made a decision on dropping some products when we go to BS-VI, (which are) low volume products. And we have to invest in all the safety regulations that are coming in and therefore there is no letting up of investment in those areas.

The shift from current BS 4 regulations to BS 6 will take place April 2020 onwards. Also, with strict safety regulations set to come into effect July 2019 onwards, Mahindra will have to invest a significant amount in preparing all its models to meet these requirements. Therefore, the company does not see any sense in pouring money into slow-selling products.

Investing in upgrading low-volume products to meet new safety regulations and BS6 norms is not feasible.

Mahindra sold 677 units of the Xylo in January 2018. The Verito and Verito Vibe registered sales of 125 units during the same period, while just one unit of the NuvoSport was sold last month. With newer, more modern products already in the pipeline, these low volume products are likely to be phased out.
