Kia has received a very strong positive response at Auto Expo 2018 that concluded earlier this week. According to a new report from The Economic Times, the company may fast-track its India entry.
The latest development was revealed to the business publication by Manohar Bhat, Head - Sales & Marketing for India operations, Kia. “In the four months (since local plant’s work started), we are ahead of the schedule by two months,” he said. So, it is possible for the company to enter the market earlier.
“Seeing the products and the response we have received, possibly the earlier we come out, the better response we will get,” Mr. Bhat said.
Kia initially planned to begin production in September 2019 and launch the first model before Diwali (October 2019). Now, it seems like the company may consider starting production in mid-2019 for an earlier market launch.
Kia will enter the Indian automotive space with a Kia SP Concept-based 5-seat SUV. Depending on the market responses, it will consider a 7-seat version of the Kia SP Concept-based SUV. Further ahead, the South Korean automaker will launch a new small SUV, most likely a Maruti Vitara Brezza rivaling sub-4 metre model. Later, a premium hatchback, possibly the Kia Rio (Hyundai i20 competitor) will follow.
