Hyundai will offer the new CVT option in the 2018 Hyundai i20 with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.

The current Hyundai i20 is available with a 1.2-litre petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1.4-litre petrol engine linked to a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 1.4-litre diesel engine coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission. With the facelift, the Hyundai will discontinue the 1.4-litre petrol engine and the 4-speed automatic transmission. In place of the 4-speed automatic transmission, the company will introduce a continuously variable transmission. Customers will have this option with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.

The 2018 Hyundai i20 1.2L CVT will likely have a higher fuel economy than the current Hyundai i20 1.4L 4AT (18.60 km/l). Sources say that Hyundai will not offer paddle shifters in it. The company could roll out this feature at a later date, though. The current model has the 4-speed automatic transmission option available only in the mid-level Magna grade. The new model could have the CVT option available even in the higher-end Sport and Asta grades, and maybe even the range-topping Asta (O) grade.
