P1E & P1F variants of the Royal Enfield 650 cc motorcycle planned - Report

The Economic Times reports that the upcoming variants of the Royal Enfield 650 are codenamed P1E & P1F, and the bikes will be showcased at the 2017 EICMA, tomorrow.

The variants were spotted testing in August, and the Royal Enfield 650 cc engine was revealed today. The development of the upcoming motorcycle, codenamed P81 started in 2014, and as per the media site, the bikes will enter the market after April 2018.

The website also reports that the company has made reforms in sales and service with a new customer interface; and has implemented New Product Introduction process on the back end in order to get the product right in the first time itself. The motorcycle brand has also optimised its vendor base; and has introduced new manufacturing processes to improve the quality of its products. Commenting on the upcoming flagship motorcycle, Siddhartha Lal, MD & CEO of Eicher Motors told ET:

From a niche position we have currently in the evolved markets, the twin cylinder bike will pull Royal Enfield into the consideration set of main stream market and in India it will be an ideal upgrade for Royal Enfield owners.

The Royal Enfield 650 cc motorcycle makes 17.5 PS; and 8 Nm more than the Continental GT.

Lal added that the the company has developed the bike completely from scratch; and would be the brand’s first real global motorcycle. The brand sold 6.6 lakh units in the previous financial year, witnessing a year-on-year growth of 30%. The Vallam Vadagal plant commenced production in August, and the brand aims to manufacture 8,25,000 motorcycles in the current financial year. The company will reveal more details about the motorcycle tomorrow, at the EICMA show.
