The Maruti Ciaz diesel and Maruti Ertiga diesel were previously taxed at 12%, as there are hybrids, but now they are taxed at 43%. This is a steep hike in taxes and sales have dropped substantially. 70% of the Ciaz’s sales were of its diesel hybrid model last year. Now, this figure has dropped to 32%. As for the Ertiga, 70% of the sales were of the diesel hybrid model in 2017. This year, the figure has lowered to 50%.

Because of the hike in taxes due to the implementation of GST, Maruti Suzuki had to increase the prices of the Maruti Ertiga diesel by about INR 80,000. Prices of the Ciaz diesel and Ertiga diesel now start at INR 9,42,975 (ex-showroom Delhi) and INR 8,68,712 respectively.
